It’s 4:30 p.m. on a Thursday night and you’re in the midst of that same familiar text message conversation with your significant other.
We all know it goes something like this:
Person 1: What sounds good for dinner tonight?
Person 2: Anything you like sounds good to me.
Person 1: How about we try that new Chinese delivery place?
Person 2: Meh, I had Chinese for lunch. Anything but Chinese.
And so it begins. The length of these kinds of chats may vary, but the end result often is the same. Eventually you eat. Something.
But at Bat 17, they raise that bar.
Located in the heart of Evanston at 1709 Benson Ave., the local pub defines itself as the answer to almost any hunger need, serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner to its patrons.
The Evanston establishment claims to take a page from some of New York’s finest delis, ratcheting “up the quality to a mouth-watering trance, and (wrapping) the whole package inside a Soho, Tribeca, Lincoln Park or Wicker Park style saloon.”
Sound like a mouthful? It is.
“Our goal is to give our customers an experience like no other, beginning with the absolute best sandwiches on the planet and providing service that is second to none,” the web site reads.
In addition to dine-in service, there is a complimentary coffee bar, a pub, and a catering menu. The dine-in menu is extensive, featuring a wide variety of burgers, sandwiches and apps, all cleverly named to boot.
Bread is sourced from Evanston Institution, Bennison’s Bakery, under the supervision of Certified Master Baker Jory Downer.
“We treat all our sandwiches, salads, and breakfast are as fine dining,” the web site reads. “There is a new standard in town and the bar has been raised.”
