There is a new kind of craft walk in town, this time celebrating a variety of locally made beverages.
From 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 16, more than 30 local businesses will stay open late and offer tastings of craft beverages brewed and distilled by Few Spirits, Kombucha Brava, and Sketchbook Brewing Company.
Participating businesses include Oceanique, La Principal, Squeezebox Books & Music, FRÍO Gelato, Secret Treasures Antiques & Collectibles, Autobarn Alfa Romeo & Fiat, and Club Pilates.
The business owners at Few Spirits, Kombucha Brava, and Sketchbook Brewing Company are supporting participating businesses by donating product to them for the evening.
"There are a lot of great craft beverages coming out of this one tiny little neighborhood, and what better way to tell the world than give them a taste?" said Sketchbook co-owner Alice George. "We can't wait to celebrate our local roots with our neighbors."
A portion of all ticket proceeds will be donated directly to Rainbows for All Children, a non-profit located in the heart of the Mile.
Rainbows does incredible work supporting children who are suffering from life-changing loss due to death, divorce, incarceration or other trauma. Donations from this event will specifically go to support the work being done by three different support groups currently meeting at the Evanston Public Library.
Guests will check in at check-in locations to receive a wristband, goody bag (while supplies last), and a map of participating businesses.
Visit the businesses on the map to get a tasting while you browse their great selections of food and merchandise. Many businesses will conduct special promotions during the event. Ask for details when you stop in.
"Being the home of the Temperance Movement, it was illegal to make alcohol in Evanston up until 2011 when Evanston welcomed the change of laws to give a little distillery like us a big chance." said Few Spirits Tasting Room Manager Katherine Loftus. "Few wouldn't be where we are today without the support of Evanston.”
That support is one of several reasons Loftus said she is excited for the community to come together for this event.
“We see our product around the globe but to enjoy our product in this community is most rewarding and seeing the growth of the craft beverage scene here is remarkable, an explosion of talent in just under eight years,” she said.
Tickets are $37.50, and include a souvenir tumbler.
