Neighborhood Spotlight: A Guide to Holiday Fun in Evanston

  |     |   Lifestyle, Small Business Spotlight

A winter wonderland theme is taking to the streets of The Main-Dempster Mile and with it the spirit of the holiday season is coming alive in Evanston.

This holiday season, Evanston businesses are competing in a holiday window decorating contest with a “Winter Wonderland” theme, and the results are stunning. Early fan favorites include many storefronts throughout the Main-Dempster Mile, including stumble & relish and Follow Your Nose.

The contest officially begins December 1, when voting begins on the Evanston Holiday Window Decorating Contest Facebook page. The winners will be announced on December 22.

Follow the contest online, or check out the shops in person at the first annual Main-Dempster Mile Holiday Treat Walk. More than 30 businesses are participating in the event, featuring traditional and non-traditional holiday treats at every stop from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 13.

The event is free, but for a suggested donation of $10 participants will receive a souvenir mug and 100 percent of the donation will benefit Soup at Six.

Sip, shop and enjoy the Mile

Holiday Sip & Shops are happening at participating stores from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays throughout the month of December.

Booked, Marie Parie Boutique, and Belgian Chocolatier Piron are among those participating in these festive weekly events.

Elsewhere in Evanston, the 4th Annual Warm Bevvy Walk will offer shoppers another fun way to shop local from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6. Check in at Ayla’s Originals, 1511 Sherman Ave., to pick up a map of the stops and get a wristband if you would like to enjoy adult beverages as part of the event

The event is free and open to all ages, but RSVPs are requested and there is a $5 suggested donation to receive a “We Love Evanston” mug.

Get in the spirit at Fountain Square

Celebrate the season with the community at the Evanston Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 8.

From 5 to 8 p.m., join Mayor Hagerty and Santa and Mrs. Claus to light up the live tree planted at the south end of Fountain Square Plaza.

Following a 5 p.m. performance by the Evanston Children’s Choir, the tree lighting is set to happen at 5:30 p.m. Patrons can sip on hot cocoa, admire the work of ice sculpture artists, and chat with Santa for the remainder of the evening.
