Creativity meets community for a very noble cause this month in Evanston.
More than 40 local businesses will participate in the 5th Annual Evanston Wine Walk, from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, when ticket holders are encouraged to check in at a number of different spots to receive a wristband and learn more about the cause.
“The Wine Walk is a friendly way to introduce new people to our businesses,” said Jaime Leonardi, owner of stumble & relish, who has participated in every walk thus far. “Plus, we can speak with guests about our neighboring businesses and the neighborhood in general.”
The event embraces the Evanston community in a truly unique way, she added.
“(Participants) will get a true sense of the small town charm that is such a key part of the Main-Dempster Mile shopping district,” Leonardi said.
Established businesses like Oceanique, The Wine Goddess, Isberian Rugs, and more will be joined by newer businesses like niceLena & Friends and the Amanda Evanston Freund Studio & Gallery.
“The Wine Walk is a great tool for these brand new businesses to announce they’re open,” said Katherine Gotsick, executive director of The Main-Dempster Mile. “And a no-brainer reason for people to walk in and check them out.”
Best of all, the walk will benefit the Louise Chen mural on Chicago Avenue, which will begin work next spring.
The mural will be painted as the result of a collaboration with Detroit-based muralist Louise Chen, who was chosen during a feedback and voting session at the Sauce Walk earlier this year.
“We were eager to commission a female muralist,” Gotsick said. “And her work is absolutely gorgeous…we are incredibly excited to see what she comes up with for this wall, which is one of the most distinctive and visible ones in our district.
Tickets for the Wine Walk start at $28 for the event, and are available the day of the event at several participating locations, including Board & Brush Evanston, La Principal, and Firehouse Grill.
A raffle will also be held with proceeds benefiting the Chicago Avenue Mural.
